EASTER SUNDAY 4TH APRIL

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Easter Sunday 4th April will see the start of the new DalesRail season.  There will be a full programme of guided walks and coach links in Dent Dale and around Kirkby Stephen linked to the Vintage Transport Day.

However, due to engineering work affecting Carlisle Station, DalesRail will only be able to operate to and from Armathwaite Station with a dedicated coach link providing the last part of the journey to Carlisle.  Full details can be viewed by clicking HERE.

DALESRAIL WALKS

Monday, January 25th, 2010

The DalesRail 2010 season of walks have been published and can be viewed at www.dalesrail.com/downloads. As well as the tried and tested graded and guided walks there is something new for 2010 – a programme of short countryside walks, generally on fairly level paths, visiting places of interest. All that is need is suitable clothing including a waterproof coat and suitable outdoor (stout) shoes, along with some food and drink.

DALESRAIL TESTIMONIALS

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

An article by Ron Freethy in the Lancashire Telegraph (click here to see the full article), about visiting Long Meg and her Daughters at Little Salkeld in Cumbria, has generated two glowing testimonials about the LCC sponsored DalesRail services. The first from ‘happycyclist’, Darwen reads;

A better option is to wait till next summer, leave the car at home, and go on the DalesRail, which stops at both Langwathby and Lazonby – with Long Meg being roughly inbetween – so that circular walks can be taken from either station, or a linear walk from station to station.
And the Dails Rail service, with two trains running between Blackburn and Carlisle in the summer months is not only one of the most picturesque routes in the country, it’s also possibly the friendliest train in the country – no yobs, rude people, beer cans, people talking loudly on mobile phones or listening to music on their phones, it’s all very civilised and enjoyable.

The second by ‘Noiticer’ (sic), Blackburn reads;

I agree with ‘happycyclist’, DalesRail is one of the best train journeys in the UK, not only because it traverses two of the country’s most scenic lines through the Ribble Valley and the Settle to Carlisle, but because it has a fantastic range of guided walks on offer, from the easy stroll to the strenuous. In addition there are town tours, coach trips to interesting places off the train such as Hadrian’s Wall and Teesdale and connecting bus services to Wensleydale and Dentdale. The train has a refreshment trolley service and has stewards who give passengers all the help and advice they need. In fact the DalesRail service should win a national award for the all-round service it offers – all organised by volunteers from an organisation called Lancashire Rail Ramblers. Well done to them. DalesRail 2010 begins on Easter Sunday and runs every Sunday to mid-October. It has a website too!

FARES FAIR

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Fares for the DalesRail service in 2010 have been held and some instances they have been reduced.

Northern Rail has issued a brief of the fares and we are pleased to see that there are no increases in any fares and the DalesRail Duo ticket is to continue. Fares from Manchester, Salford Crescent, Bolton and Chorley have been reduced for journeys to Lazonby, Armathwaite and Carlisle.

DALESRAIL GETS NEW LOOK

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

The old website for Dalesrail www.dalesrail.com closed down on Sunday 6th Septmeber, at the end of the 2009 season. The new website was launched on Monday 7th September and this can be explored by using the navigation buttons on the left hand side of this page. The good news is that the 2010 season will not be interrupted by engineering works and will run from Easter Sunday 4th April 2010 right through until Sunday 17th October 2010!
