welcome

Welcome to DalesRail 2012!

Lancashire DalesRail is simply the best way to spend a Sunday!  DalesRail links Lancashire with the scenic Ribble Valley, Yorkshire Dales and Eden Valley.  Enjoy the best of English countryside from the comfort of the train travelling one of the world’s most scenic lines.
When will DalesRail operate in 2012? DalesRail 2012 will operate from Sunday 1st April 2012 until Sunday 21st October 2012. The second train will run from Sunday 20th May 2012 until Sunday 9th September 2012. Network Rail have assured us that there are no major engineering works that will affect DalesRail in 2012 although on Easter Sunday 8th April the first train will start from Preston rather than Blackpool North. DalesRail is a leisure service aimed at walkers and those wanting a special day out. DalesRail offers unrivalled opportunities to experience some of the most scenic countryside in England, to visit a variety of lovely small towns and villages with plenty of places to enjoy fresh air, a meal or a drink and all without having to take the car!  There is an exciting and extensive guided walk programme and a comprehensive series of coach links that extend the places that can be visited using DalesRail.  The DalesRail Country series of leaflets covers Appleby and Carlisle and soon there will be new ones for Wensleydale and Hadrian’s Wall.  DalesRail also welcomes cyclists on board.
What does it cost?
DalesRail has special fares tailored to help make this as cheap a day out as possible.  For example, the DalesRail Duo enables two people to travel together and save money!!  One person pays the full return fare and the other goes for half price. The fares for the 2012 season have now been posted on the website and can be seen by clicking HERE. The fare structure has been revised and there now just two origin and destination groups. A few fares have had to rise but a good number have come down in price!
What will the 2012 season have to offer?
2012 will continue to offer a series of walks for all capabilities, including 'stepping out' and 'climb a peak slowly' walks for those who do not want to take on the longer, more arduous walks just yet.

We are also looking at encouraging non-walkers to join DalesRail and for them to enjoy the delights of the small towns en-route and also to publicise what is on offer for the visitor to Carlisle.

The DalesRail brochure will continue with the style introduced in 2011 and full details of walks will be available to download on the website.
Apart from all this the usual features will continue with an full programme of guided walks, coach links and places to visit. And of course no DalesRail season is complete without Rolling Riot providing an at seat service of drinks and light refreshments. Want to know what the weather might do? Then click the link My Local Weather - a useful weather site for intrepid DalesRailers and others who might want to walk in the dales. Want an audio guide to the Settle - Carlisle Line?
